How SHUTi Works

SHUTi was created to help you overcome insomnia using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for insomnia techniques.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a short course of therapy aimed at retraining your mind and body for great sleep. CBT-I is the preferred choice insomnia treatment according to the Clinical Guidelines of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Center for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health. Studies show CBT-I produces the same level of improvement as sleeping medications without the risk of dependency on pills or other adverse side effects. Instead, CBT helps you learn techniques to break the cycle of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that interfere with restful sleep. These powerful tools and knowledge produce a lasting and more permanent improvement in sleep patterns.

Chronic insomnia is an illness. Unlike depression or other disorders, insomnia will not resolve on its own without some type of intervention.

How Long Does the Program Take?

Once a week – for six weeks, you will complete one 40 minute Core online learning and strategy session. To help SHUTi tailor the program for you, we also recommend you take 2 – 3 minutes each day to complete a short online Sleep Diary. Between Core sessions, you will practice the new strategies and techniques you have learned and incorporate them into your daily routine.

The majority of SHUTi users complete the program with a total time investment of under 7 hours over a period of 7 weeks – resulting in a clinically significant change in their insomnia!

What will I do in the program?

Research results show that successfully improving your sleep requires engagement and action. Unlike other programs, which may rely on a collection of narrated videos or PDFs, SHUTi was designed to actively engage you in behavioral change.

Each of the Core learning and strategy sessions includes about 40 minutes of engaging interactions, quizzes, personal stories, homework review and other helpful information designed to help you improve your sleep.  And throughout your subscription, SHUTi will create a personal sleep recommendation based on your current sleep patterns for each week that you complete at least 5 Sleep Diaries!
